Is it safe to upload your photo to an online resizer? Read this first

Your exam photo and signature are identity documents. What happens when you upload them to free resizer sites, and how to resize safely in your own browser.

Why your exam photo is sensitive

An exam form photo is a clear, front-facing picture of your face. Together with your signature, and sometimes a thumb impression, it is the kind of identity data used on applications, affidavits and KYC forms. It deserves the same care as a copy of your ID card.

What happens on many free resizer sites

Many sites send your image to a server to process it. That server may keep copies, logs or backups for an unknown period. You usually cannot check who has access or when it is deleted.

How in-browser tools are different

With ExamPhoto, cropping and JPEG compression run on your own device in the browser. The image is not sent to us for processing. If you need the file on another device, an optional five-minute transfer link uploads the prepared JPEG; it works once and then expires. Details are in the privacy policy.

A quick test you can do

Open the tool, wait for the page to load, then turn off mobile data or Wi-Fi. If cropping and downloading still work, processing is happening on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Does ExamPhoto upload my photo?

No, not for cropping or compression; that runs in your browser. A file is uploaded only if you choose to create a five-minute transfer link, and it is deleted after one download or five minutes.

How can I tell if a resizer uploads my photo?

Read its privacy policy. A tool that works in the browser keeps working when you briefly switch off mobile data after the page has loaded.

Is it safe to resize photos at a cyber café?

It can be, if you delete the files from the downloads folder and recycle bin, and sign out of any accounts before you leave.
